What is a green roof

A green roof is a roof that is partially or completely covered with vegetation and soil or a growing substrate planted over a waterproofing membrane. The roof can contain a root barrier, drainage and irrigation. The green roof is the domain of Iceland, Scandinavia, Canada or the USA. The design of houses with grassed roof is devised in northern Europe. The green roof design can keep heat in a cool environment.

The green layer on the roof is a perfect thermal insulator. The green roof is a great asset for the city in terms of ecology. It produces enough oxygen and carbon dioxide. Absorbs pollutants from the air, also prevents overheating during the summer months, helps to reduce the temperature fluctuations between day and night. Green roofs are generally considered to be non-flammable, relieving sewers and slowing drainage of rainwater. This is a more demanding design and less maintenance needs to be done.
